Beer ad takes on DADT repeal

Who doesn’t like beer? Who doesn't like soldiers? Why not put them together in a beer commercial? A new Budweiser beer commercial will have a lot of people asking, wait a minute, why did that soldier call that guy first and not his mom, girlfriend, or sister to tell them he was coming home? And why is that guy he called the person making all the coming home party arrangements? And why is that guy with the facial hair that is just too conveniently in between scruffy and styled the first person that the soldier gives a big hug?Well, at least two blogs are askin' but ain't nobody tellin'. read more

An alternative to the Paul Ryan budget plan is emerging from the sidelines, and the math indicates it might actually make a dent in the deficit. In a plan titled "the People's Budget," the Congressional Progressive Caucus promised to balance the budget by 2014, create a surplus by 2021, and preserve Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. read more

Governor Harley Barbour, also frequent Rewrite guest star, decided to bow out of a 2012 presidential bid.The Republican from Mississippi issued a statement today, saying point blank he "will not be a candidate for president next year."Barbour said he lacked the "absolute fire in the belly" and "total certainty" that a presidential candidate needed to succeed in the race. Defending a segregationist group a few months ago didn’t exactly help his chances either.He plans to keep his day job and help elect governors across the country. read more

Tonight’s guest Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform, is at the center of a very public battle over a no-tax hike pledge with Republican Sen. Tom Coburn. Norquist told Politico the Oklahoma Senator “lied his way” into office:The pledge that Tom Coburn signed was to the citizens of Oklahoma. He made that promise in campaigning for Senate in Oklahoma.Coburn said on national TV today that he lied his way into office and will vote to raise taxes if he damn well feels like it, never mind what he promised the citizens of Oklahoma.
