Land is central to the identity and culture of Native peoples, and land acknowledgements are seen as a first step toward the reconciliation of America and its Indigenous presence. While words can’t change the fact that the United States has broken virtually every treaty it has ever made with tribal nations, recognizing that we are on Native land raises awareness of a history most Americans never learn in school.Nov. 29, 2020
