The Daily Show vs. Tucson curriculum

Remember earlier this year when schools in Tucson, Arizona were suddenly banned from teaching students Mexican-American studies? The move triggered a student backlash, walkouts, protests, etc. That didn't stop it from happening, and since then the story has died down, at least when it comes to national news coverage.

That is until this week. A team from The Daily Show traveled to Arizona to talk with Tucson school board member Michael Hicks who is in favor of the ban. To say Daily Show correspondent Al Madrigal made a mockery of Hicks and his position is an understatement. Our NBC affiliate in Tucscon, KVOA, reports that board members are not happy about this "embarrassment."

It amazes me people with controversial stances on political issues, be they local or national, still agree to talk to The Daily Show. But I'm glad they do. It helps The Daily Show's brilliant staff use snark and comedy to point out the truly ridiculous things that sit in plain sight.
