A top adviser to Mitt Romney today may have committed the biggest verbal gaffe of the 2012 campaign, so far.
Eric Fehrnstrom said Romney's policy positions could easily change in order to appeal to more moderate voters this fall in the general election campaign.
"I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes," he told CNN. "It's almost like an Etch A Sketch. You can kind of shake it up and restart all over again."
The comment further solidifies the perception that the GOP presidential front-runner is someone who readily changes his positions to accommodate political realities.
When he ran for governor, for example, Romney supported abortion rights. He now says he opposes abortion.
Romney's chief opponents in the primary campaign, including Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich, jumped all over it today, both with Etch A Sketchs in hand:
