Sanford debates Colbert-Busch (not a cutout!)

Mark Sanford and his Democratic opponent for the South Carolina congressional seat, Elizabeth Colbert-Busch, had their one debate.

He's been debating a cardboard cutout of Nancy Pelosi and he brought up her name so many times during the one-hour debate, it became a running laugh line. The former governor also repeatedly said that Colbert Busch has received a million dollars in donations from "Democratic special interests" and implied that she would be beholden to liberals who'd supported her.

Colbert Busch largely steered clear of Sanford's troubled ethical troubles, although she did refer once to his using taxpayer money to take a trip.

He, in turn, presented his liabilities as a plus, saying the humiliation he had suffered made him more able to reach across the aisle and listen to other people.
