Los Angeles school district cancels event at Trump course

Organizations have distanced themselves from Trump since he gave a presidential campaign speech that portrayed Mexican immigrants as criminals.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The Los Angeles Unified School District has cancelled a fundraiser at Donald's Trump's golf course in Southern California because of his disparaging remarks about Mexican immigrants.

The district planned a November event at Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes. Last year's event raised $60,000 for Beyond the Bell, the district's afterschool program.

The district says the golf course has refused to return a $7,500 deposit.

Organizations and businesses have distanced themselves from Trump since he gave a presidential campaign speech that portrayed Mexican immigrants as criminals.

More than 70 percent of students in the nation's second-largest school district identify as Hispanic and Beyond the Bell Executive Director Alvaro Cortes calls Trump's remarks "unconscionable."

Trump representatives didn't immediately return requests for comment.
