Vice President Joe Biden, who last year dubbed one of New York's airports "a Third World country," is talking infrastructure with Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
They're scheduled to make a "major infrastructure announcement" Monday afternoon in New York City.
The governor's office didn't give any details on what the infrastructure announcement would be about.
In October, the two talked about plans to improve the region's airports and announce a design competition. In February 2014, Biden said if he blindfolded someone and took him to LaGuardia, he'd think he was in "some Third World country."
The event is the vice president's second in New York state on Monday. Earlier in the day, he's expected to reveal details about the siting of a photonics hub in Rochester.
Sen. Charles Schumer said last week that New York's bid was selected from among three finalists competing for the Integrated Photonics Institute for Manufacturing Innovation. The Defense Department has committed $110 million in grant money.
Sites in California and Florida also were in the running.
Supporters say the project could mean thousands of jobs for the region as it brings together government, industry and academia to advance photonics research and its use commercially.
Photonics involves the use of light to advance robotics, medical imaging and other technology.
Monday's announcement is scheduled at the Canal Ponds Business Park in the Rochester suburb of Greece.
