A federal court on Monday indicted New York Rep. Michael Grimm on 20 counts, mostly of fraud.
Grimm -- who surrendered to the FBI earlier Monday morning and was taken into custody -- faces charges of mail, wire, and health care fraud, as well as perjury and obstruction of official proceeding.
The U.S. Attorney's Office recently disclosed its intent to file criminal charges against Grimm, who has been under investigation for more than two years for malicious leaks, violations of grand jury secrecy, and strong-arm tactics.
Additionally, the Republican was caught on camera physically threatening to "break" a New York reporter "in half, like a boy," following President Obama's State of the Union address in January.
The House Ethics Committee last November made public an investigation of the congressman over possible campaign finance violations, msnbc previously reported.
Grimm, who was once viewed as a rising GOP star, currently serves his second term as a representative for Staten Island, a borough of New York City.
