After a late-night session in the Texas Statehouse Friday night, the Senate passed one of the most restrictive abortion bills in the country.

The bill could be signed by Republican Gov. Rick Perry as early as next week, NBC News' Charles Hadlock said Saturday.

If signed into law, the legislation will ban abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy and put restrictions on doctors and clinics.

Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis, a Democrat, spoke last night saying they will fight the legislation in the courts and the ballot box but Hadlock explains, "it’s about the only option they [democrats] have right now.”
