NBC News’ Mara Schiavocampo is reporting George Zimmerman launched his own website, therealgeorgezimmerman.com, soliciting donations for his “living expenses and legal defense.” Zimmerman’s lawyers confirmed it is, in fact, authorized and operated by the man responsible for the shooting death of African American teenager, Trayvon Martin.
The front page of the sparsely populated website contains a statement from Zimmerman. In it, he says he’s been forced to abandon his “entire life” as a result of the intense media scrutiny around the case. To him, the “website’s sole purpose is to ensure my supporters they are receiving my full attention without any intermediaries.” It conveniently includes a Pay Pal link.
Although numerous funds have been established in support of Zimmerman, the Florida native claims to have received no money.
The site contains little information surrounding the shooting. Under the “Facts” section, Zimmerman states he cannot discuss any aspects of the case at this time. Meanwhile, the “Album” page contains a photo of controversial graffiti at an Ohio State black cultural community center. The page titled “My Race” contains no information at all, except for a quote from Thomas Paine and Edmund Burke that do not mention race.
The website has been crashing all day upon confirmation of its authenticity.
