Repression therapy in comedy

Earlier this week, Lawrence told you about the Christian-based therapy clinic presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann co-owns with her husband. Truth Wins Out, a gay rights group, went undercover at the counseling center, and a video shows that staffers are using prayer and Bible scriptures to help “cure” people of homosexuality.

Marcus Bachmann has denied their clinic tries turn gay people straight. But he has called gay people “barbarians” in the past. The congresswoman herself, a fierce opponent of same-sex marriage, once filed a criminal report claiming to be trapped and threatened by lesbians in a public bathroom.

So basically, this clinic story was just asking for a Daily Show skit. Last night, comedian Jerry Seinfeld made a cameo appearance, using repression therapy-style techniques to help host Jon Stewart resist the urge to make a cheap jokes about the Bachmann family. Definitely worth a watch.
