Wednesday's campaign round-up

Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:

* In New Jersey, a new Quinnipiac poll shows Gov. Chris Christie (R) with a huge lead over Barbara Buono (D), 61% to 29%. Of particular interest, though, is the fact that the governor's popularity isn't doing much for his party -- by a 15-point margin, New Jersey voters still want a Democratic majority in the state legislature.

* If Republican media personality Liz Cheney launches a primary challenge against Sen. Mike Enzi (R) in Wyoming next year, the National Republican Senatorial Committee is already committed to supporting the incumbent.

* Just weeks after rejoining Fox News as a pundit, former half-term Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) said last night she's interested in possibly taking on incumbent Sen. Mark Begich (D) next year. Palin said she's considering the race because, in her words, "people have requested me considering it."

* With Rep. Jo Bonner (R-Ala.) resigning mid-term to become chancellor of the University of Alabama System, Wells Griffith is gearing up in the hopes of winning a special election to replace him. Griffith is perhaps best known as the current deputy chief of staff for the Republican National Committee.

* In Maryland, Lt. Gov Anthony Brown (D) is moving forward with his gubernatorial plans, and has hired a new senior advisor to give his campaign boost: Jim Messina, President Obama's campaign manager in 2012.

* And though Colorado Republicans struggled for months to recruit a candidate to take on Sen. Mark Udall (D) in 2014, they now have two: state Sens. Randy Baumgardner and Owen Hill launched Senate bids this week and will face off in a primary next year.
