Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:

* In Virginia, Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Terry McAuliffe launched his latest television ad this morning, featuring support from former Republican state lawmaker Katherine Waddell.

* It's primary day in New Jersey's U.S. Senate special election. Newark Mayor Cory Booker is widely expected to win the Democratic nod easily, and will probably face Republican Steve Lonegan in the fall.

* In North Carolina, public concerns about Republican radicalism appear to have created an unexpected result: they're helping Sen. Kay Hagan's (D) re-election prospects. New results from Public Policy Polling show the incumbent senator, who is widely seen as vulnerable, leading her most likely Republican rivals by eight points.

* In South Carolina, incumbent Gov. Nikki Haley (R) confirmed yesterday that she will seek another term and will host a kick-off campaign event on August 26. Govs. Bobby Jindal, Rick Perry, and Scott Walker will be there, probably in the hopes of currying favor in advance of 2016.

* The number of prominent Democrats who don't want to run for the Senate in Montana keeps growing. Former Rep. Pat Williams (D) is the latest, announcing yesterday that he strongly considered the race, before ultimately deciding against it. The seat is being vacated by Sen. Max Baucus (D), who is retiring next year.

* And Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) said something to BuzzFeed the other day that seems to suggest higher aspirations: "I mean, right now, I've got my hands full being governor. I'm not real involved yet at the -- strike that last word -- at the federal level, so I'll let them work that out for right now."
