Today's edition of quick hits:
* Ruin in the Philippines: "The scale of the devastation and the desperation wrought by one of the most powerful storms ever to buffet the Philippines came into much clearer view on Monday, three days after it hopscotched across the country's midsection whipping up monstrous walls of seawater."
* The multi-party talks with Iran appeared poised for a breakthrough, but France's hard line, along with Iranian concerns over a few key words in a draft agreement, caused the talks to break down. For now, all that is left is "a promise that lower-level negotiators" will meet in Geneva in 10 days "for more discussions."
* Veterans Day: "Hailing 'patriots who have rendered the highest service any American can offer this nation,' President Barack Obama honored the country's military veterans Monday at a Veterans Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. The president kept with tradition, laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns before speaking at the Memorial Amphitheater to 'honor a debt we can never fully repay.'"
* Pakistan: "A senior member of the Afghan Taliban and financier for the militant Haqqani network was shot dead overnight in Pakistan's capital Islamabad, officials and Taliban sources told NBC News on Monday."
* As of this afternoon, it appears Democrat Mark Herring has a very narrow advantage in the race for Virginia state attorney general.
* The circumstances surroudning the death of Renisha McBride, just 19, are so very awful: "Civil rights groups protested in Detroit this weekend after a young black woman was shot on the porch of a suburban home earlier this month, as she apparently sought help after she had car trouble."
* There's no real point in documenting these incidents anymore, but for the record, Andrew Kaczynski found two more examples of plagiarism from Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.). The latest came from Paul's 2012 book.
* Amazon's deal with the U.S. Postal Service for e-commerce deliveries on Sunday is interesting for a variety of reasons.
* A tragic accident in Oklahoma: "A source close to Sen. Jim Inhofe has confirmed that his son, Dr. Perry Inhofe, was on board a plane that crashed near Owasso, Okla. on Sunday. Perry Inhofe was killed in the crash. Dr. Perry Inhofe was an orthopedic surgeon in Tulsa.... Authorities said the plane crashed around 4 p.m. in a wooded area. Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers confirmed on Sunday that one person died in the crash."
