Singer Katy Perry offers theme song to Hillary Clinton

Updated

Pop star Katy Perry has made Hillary Clinton an offer she might not refuse.

The chart-topping American singer took to the photo-sharing Instagram application to tell the former secretary of state that she will “write her a ‘theme’ song if she needs it” to run for president in 2016.

Perry also posted the message to Twitter, where Clinton responded, referencing Perry’s hit song, “Roar”:

The pop star’s message appears alongside an image of herself standing with the former secretary of state and holding a copy of the politician’s new memoir, “Hard Choices.” Clinton’s book, released less than two weeks ago, details accounts of the crises and challenges she faced during her four-year term as secretary of state, and how the experiences shaped her perspectives. The potential 2016 presidential candidate scheduled several upcoming events to promote her long-awaited memoir.

Clinton’s book release came amid almost constant speculation about the former first lady’s presidential ambitions.

The lyrics to “Roar” include the lines: “I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath / Scared to rock the boat and make a mess / So I sat quietly, agreed politely / I guess that I forgot I had a choice.”

Perry performed several concerts to rally votes for President Barack Obama ahead of his 2012 re-election. At one of the events, she wore a “ballot dress” that depicted a checked box next to Obama’s name and an unchecked square next to the title of his Republican opponent, Mitt Romney.
