Michael Steele: Speech was 'vintage Clinton,' but not 'where the country is headed'

may not be where the country is headed. It's a very different situation than when Clinton was running."

Charlotte, N.C. — Former RNC Chairman Michael Steele thinks Bill Clinton is a great salesman, but that he doesn't have a good product.

I caught up with Steele, an msnbc contributor, on Thursday morning and asked what he thought of the former president's speech. "It was vintage Clinton," said Steele, adding, "That is definitely a compliment."

"He did a great job laying out the choice: 'What kind of country do we want to be?'" The problem, said Steele, is that "[the Democrats] may not be where the country is headed. It's a very different situation than when Clinton was running."
