We already knew Stephen Colbert would replace David Letterman as host of "The Late Show." What we didn't know was who would replace Stephen Colbert on "The Colbert Report" ... until now.
Comedy Central has announced that "Daily Show" regular Larry Wilmore will take the reins beginning in January 2015 as host of "The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore." The self-described "comedic look at news, current events and pop culture from unique perspectives not typically on display in late night television" will air weeknights at 11:30 p.m. and will be produced by Jon Stewart's production company, Busboy Productions. Stewart is also credited with creating the show.
"We are thrilled to be expanding our relationship with Jon Stewart and Busboy Productions, and are looking forward to the world getting to know Larry Wilmore even better. He's a spectacular talent in front of and behind the camera," Comedy Central President Michele Ganeless said in a statement.
When Wilmore joined the "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" in 2006, he had already established himself as a successful television writer and producer, earning an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series in 2002 for his behind-the-scenes role on Fox's "The Bernie Mac Show." Additionally, Wilmore has written for "In Living Color," "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air" and "The Jamie Foxx Show," and served as a consulting producer on NBC's "The Office."
"I'm beyond excited to have this chance to continue my relationships with Comedy Central and the brilliant Jon Stewart," Wilmore said in a statement, adding, "I love the city of New York and promise to only wear my Laker t-shirts when I'm layering."
