George Zimmerman had a broken nose, “a pair of black eyes, two lacerations to the back of his head and a minor back injury” the day after he shot and killed Trayvon Martin, an unarmed Florida teen, according to a doctor's report obtained by ABC News.

The report is part of the discovery phase of Zimmerman's trial. He's charged with second-degree murder in connection with the February shooting, and has pleaded not guilty, contending that he acted in self-defense.

Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, also told the doctor that his lower back hurt, and photos show that he had bruising on his upper lip.

The question of whether, and to what extent, Zimmerman was injured after the altercation with Martin has been the subject of intense debate in the media and among supporters of both sides.

Local authorities initially declined to press charges against Zimmerman, though questions were raised about the aggressiveness of the police investigation. After a national outcry, a special prosecutor appointed by Florida governor Rick Scott announced charges last month.
