Rick Perry: Apparently not a fan of gays in the military

Rick Perry seems to not be taking his dip in popularity sitting down.

Think Progress took note today on their Twitter account of a Texas Tribune blog post pointing us to a new Perry campaign ad that appears to be aimed at stirring the hearts of social conservatives by calling up the DADT repeal and school prayer.

While walking on a bucolic stretch of land with some inspiring Danny Elfman-ish score, Perry informs us:

"I'm not ashamed to admit I'm a Christian, but you don't need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there's something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military, but our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school."

Andrew Sullivan took note of it as well and pointed to a new White House memorandum that instructs "all agencies engaged abroad to ensure that U.S. diplomacy and foreign assistance promote and protect the human rights of LGBT persons."

This all comes a day after Hillary Clinton marked Human Rights Day in Geneva with a speech on gay rights to the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Perry's pumping a lot of money into Iowa to help revive his poll numbers and image before the caucuses, but it doesn't seem as if he's interested in courting openly gay service members.
