George Zimmerman’s wife is filing for divorce.

Shellie Zimmeran, 26, filed the paperwork in a Florida court on Thursday, NBC News confirmed. It comes just two months after George Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter in the shooting death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin.

“Filed this pm—electronically – to took a while but the documents have been received by the Seminole county clerks,” Kelly Sims, a lawyer for Shellie Zimmerman told NBC News.

Shellie Zimmerman stood by her spouse during the murder trial, but acknowledged in an interview with ABC News last month that she was “going to have to think about” whether or not they would stay together.

Shellie Zimmerman also suggested that the two were having marital problems before the shooting and that she was staying at a different address the night Martin was shot and killed. She also acknowledged the  highly-publicized murder trial placed a heavy weight on their relationship.

After the July 13 acquittal, George Zimmerman has still garnered headlines. Just days after the verdict, he helped rescue a family from an overturned vehicle. In late July, he was pulled over  in Texas for speeding and had a gun in the car's glove compartment, police said.
