On Monday Major League Baseball announced the suspensions of more than a dozen players for a combined total of more than 800 games. The biggest name on the list was the Yankees' Alex Rodriguez who was axed for 211 games. He's appealing the ruling--which means he's allowed to be in Monday night’s lineup against the Chicago White Sox, a situation many fans have criticized. “Everybody wants A-Rod to go away, the Yankees organization, the Yankees fans, and I guess if push came to shove the Yankees players as well--they don’t want this circus,” Sports Illustrated Executive Editor BJ Schecter said on Monday’s show.
A-Rod may be able to hang onto his job at third base but he has lost his reputation for good. “It’s really sad because if you look at the career of Alex Rodriguez, when he came up with the Seattle Mariners when he was 18, he had so much promise. He was by far the best player in the game for a long, long time,” Schecter said. “He didn’t need to use steroids….This fall from grace is one of the biggest in baseball history.”
