But first, a quick history lesson: In 1968, President Lyndon B. Johnson launched Hispanic Heritage Week, an annual commemoration of the contributions Hispanics have made in the United States. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan expanded the tradition to a month-long celebration.
Today, America's Hispanic population is steadily growing. In 2014, Hispanics made up 17.4% of the U.S. population, according to the Pew Research Center.
