Former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer has missed the deadline for filing the ethics report necessary in his bid to become the city's comptroller, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.

However, the AP reported that the Conflicts of Interest Board, to whom the report is due, extends a one-week grace period for candidates before imposing fines ranging from $250-$10,000.

Spitzer resigned from his post as governor after his involvement in a prostitution scandal was made public in March 2008.
