Herman Cain has told aides that he's reassessing his campaign.  The comments from the Republican presidential candidate come a day after an Atlanta woman said she'd had a 13-year extramarital affair with him.

Cain told senior staff in a 10-minute conference call this morning that all public events will go forward this week, but that he will review the campaign's strategy over the next several days.

Newt Gingrich continues to benefit from Cain's political collapse.  The former House Speaker's recent surge in the polls has accelerated since landing lthe New Hampshire Union Leader Republican presidential endorsement over the weekend.  Three polls taken Monday night now show Gingrich in the lead or within the margin of error in key early-voting states.

Senate Democrats have introduced legislation to extend and expand an expiring payroll tax cut, setting the stage for a showdown with Republicans who argue that it won't stimulate the economy and the way its paid for -- a tax on the rich.

And Scott Olsen is set to do his first live television interview (tonight on The Ed Schultz Show) since he was seriously injured during clashes between police and Occupy Oakland protesters in October.  Olsen was allegedly struck in the forehead by a police projectile, damaging the speech center of his brain.
