The debate over sanctuary cities continues
On July 1st, a 31-year-old woman, Kate Steinle, was shot by an undocumented immigrant, Francisco Sanchez, who was reportedly deported back to Mexico five times. This issue created a nationwide debate over “sanctuary cities.” North Carolina recently passed House Bill 318 to focus on whether illegal immigrants can be employed by the state. With this act, the “sanctuary city” policies would not be place. Immigration rights activist, Nancy Cardenas, explains the bill and is actively trying to get the North Carolina governor to veto it.
