Hugh Jackman’s 6,000 calorie-a- day diet to transform into Wolverine paid off in dollars at box office this weekend. "The Wolverine" earned $55 million in ticket sales. It slashed the trend of other big-budget action films like "R.I.P.D.," "Pacific Rim," "The Lone Ranger," and "White House Down" flopping this summer.

Last week’s box office leader, "The Conjuring," continued to summon audiences with $22.1 million in domestic sales.

The minions in “Despicable Me 2” have been anything but perturbing for Universal Pictures. The movie has netted more than $660 million in ticket sales around the world and finished third at the box office.

Another animated film also finished in the top five, "Turbo" took the number four slot. Ryan Reynolds voices the ambitious snail dreaming to compete in the Indy 500. The comedy “Grown Ups 2” earned the fifth spot.

"Parks & Recreation" star Aubrey Plaza made box office bank in the limited release of her comedy, "The To Do List." Showing in just 591 theaters, the movie earned more than $1.5 million, grossing more than its production cost.
