Freshman congressman: 'We need to be in Washington now'

Pennsylvania Democratic Rep.

Pennsylvania Democratic Rep. Matt Cartwright says Congress being on vacation while the sequester looms is “like the airplane we are flying is going down and we are watching the in-flight movie.”

Cartwright, who is serving his first year in Congress, says he and fellow freshmen on both sides of the aisle agree the nation has a spending issue, but since the economy is in a fragile recovery, now is not the right time for crippling indiscriminate cuts across the board.

Cartwright’s district in Northeastern Pennsylvania will be hit hard if the sequester goes into effect as scheduled on Friday.
