A Q&A with Thomas Roberts on his first day

MSNBC host Thomas Roberts needs little introduction, but since he's officially taking the helm over at "Way Too Early," we thought we'd take this time to ask him a few questions about the new gig.

Today is your first day at the helm; how are you feeling?

I have been feeling excited and ready to get the first “official day” under my belt.

You’ve been with msnbc since 2010; you had your show during the 11 a.m. hour, and you’re no stranger to "Way Too Early and "Morning Joe" viewers, but tell us three things about you we should know.

I’m a Libra. I am Left handed. And I am a clinodactyl - born with crooked pinky fingers.

Perhaps most importantly, what does your husband think about your new hours?

Patrick has ear plugs and a sleep mask now – he hears and sees nothing with these new morning hours.

Way Too Early and Morning Joe both play a lot of music; what are some of your favorites on the show? Any songs you’d recommend?

My Monday morning mix tape!

Rusted Root - Send Me On My Way

Kenny Rogers - The Gambler

Human League - Don't You Want Me

Paul Simon - I Know What I Know

What is your morning beverage of choice?

Obscene amounts of coffee.

Lastly, explain what stage manager Jen Lipman adds to the dynamic on set.

Jen is the behind-the-scenes heart of the show.  She is THE BEST!  Plus, she laughs at my corny jokes and helps me keep my tie and tie clips straight.  I am a shell of a man without her.

Way Too Early airs 5:30 am EST, Monday through Friday
