U.S lawmakers seek to protect LBGT athletes at next year’s Olympics

U.S. lawmakers are weighing action intended to target a controversial law in Russia that bans discussing or promoting LGBT relationships in public. More than 80 members of Congress have sent a letter urging Secretary of State John Kerry to protect LGBT athletes and fans at next year’s Olympics, while Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., is planning to introduce legislation in September asking that Russia ensure those traveling to the games will not experience anti-LGBT discrimination. Sen. Merkely  joins MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts to discuss the embassy closings and his new proposal.
