Three gunshot victims are in critical condition at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center, the chief operating officer said in a press briefing Monday, and more are expected to arrive.

The victims include two female civilians and one male metropolitan police officer, who is currently in the operating room with multiple gunshot wounds to his legs. One woman suffered gunshot wounds to the head and hand, said Dr. Janis Orlowski, and the other was shot in the shoulder. All three are alert and speaking, with very good chances of survival.

The shooting happened shortly after 8 a.m. on Monday morning at the Navy Yard in southeast Washington, D.C. Police say one gunman is dead, and authorities were searching for two other “potential” shooters.
