If E.T. has phoned home, no one picked up at the White House.
Making good on its promise, the Obama administration addressed alien conspiracy theories today — of all random things — in response to a popular petition on the White House's website. Phil Larson, a senior space policy and communications official, issued a written statement on alien life, denying its overall existence and any coverups of evidence that might suggest otherwise:
The U.S. government has no evidence that any life exists outside our planet, or that an extraterrestrial presence has contacted or engaged any member of the human race. In addition, there is no credible information to suggest that any evidence is being hidden from the public’s eye.However, that doesn’t mean the subject of life outside our planet isn’t being discussed or explored. In fact, there are a number of projects working toward the goal of understanding if life can or does exist off Earth.
Larson mentioned projects like SETI, Kepler and the Mars Science Laboratory as a steps on the path to further scientific discovery.
The Obama team encouraged people to submit questions they want answered by an administration official via its "We The People" feature on the White House website. Aliens just were on the minds of Americans, apparently.
