Kids in the D.C.-area can thank the Obamas for that sugar high.
President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama passed out candy to Halloween trick-or-treaters at the White House on Saturday. Selected elementary school kids, the Boys and Girls Club of America and children from military families were invited to attend.
These kids took a gamble — as Sarah Palin loves to mention, Mrs. Obama's pro-healthy eating habits are not candy-friendly.
Trick-or-treaters surprisingly scored a decent haul: a box of M&Ms, butter cookies from the White House pasty chef and dried fruit (clearly the token "healthy snack").
Last week, the president joked on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno that the White House was at risk of getting "egged" if the first lady continued to give out fresh fruit — a way less exciting option compared to other calorie-laden Halloween classics.
The White House was decked out in orange lights, carved pumpkins and fake cobwebs for the special occasion.
