After weeks of mounting pressure, Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner resigned from office today.

After weeks of mounting pressure, Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner resigned from office today. Weiner made the announcement just a short time ago in his home district of Brooklyn, New York.

He said he couldn’t stay in office because of the large “distraction” over his sexting scandal and apologized again for "the embarrassment that I have caused."

Weiner recently admitted to sending sexually explicit messages to several women via his Twitter account.

It’s unclear what he’ll do next. But, Weiner promised to fight on for causes important to his constituents.

His wife, Huma Abedin, also an aide to Hillary Clinton, did not attend the press conference.
