Police responded to the Westfield Garden State Plaza Mall in Paramus, New Jersey Monday night after witnesses reported a man firing shots inside. Paramus Mayor Richard Labarbiera said that there were no reported injuries.

The events started sometime after 9 P.M. ET and police described the scene as an “active shooter” situation. Multiple witnesses told NBC 4’s Ida Siegal that they saw a sole gunman wearing black clothing, a black helmet, and carrying a large firearm.

The mall went into lockdown as police went store to store to search for the suspected gunman.

Crowds started gathering outside the mall late Monday to wait for their loved ones to come outside.

Update: The suspected gunman was found dead inside the mall after 3 A.M. ET.
