Church Scout group raises more than $15,000 to buy school desks in Malawi

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -Sixth Avenue Baptist Church Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack #3415 has raised more than $15,000 to be donated to the Kids in Need of Desks Fund Project.

The boys presented a check for $15,730.88 to the KIND Fund on Sunday December 14, 2014 at Sixth Avenue Baptist Church. The donation will be used to fund desks for schools in Malawi, Africa as well as high school scholarships for Malawian girls. The scouts received contributions from the office of Mayor William Bell, Birmingham City Council members Steven Hoyt, Jay Roberson, and Kim Rafferty, the Sixth Avenue Baptist Church congregation and the Birmingham community.
