He may be hesitant to accept the title but Newark, N.J. Mayor Cory Booker is being called a hero today after running into a burning home to rescue his neighbor.

Upon arriving home last night the Mayor caught sight of the flames and resisted his security detail’s attempts at preventing him from going in to help. He reportedly told his detail “This woman is going to die if we don’t help her.” The Mayor wans’t hesitant about running into the flames, where he located the woman and—with the help of his security detail—carried her out to safety. Booker and three members of his security detail were taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and 2nd degree burns—and the woman is said to be in stable condition. Newark Fire Chief John Centanni was at the hospital with Booker following the incident and said that the Mayor executed a “professional rescue” and likely saved the woman’s life.

Fire Chief John Centanni and Newark Fire Director Fateen Ziyad will join Ed tonight to talk about the Mayor’s heroic night!
