“The First Lady just met with Inaugural citizen co-chair David Hall ahead of #MLKDay of Service” Michelle Obama tweeted Thursday.

First Lady Michelle Obama celebrated her 49th birthday Thursday with a new Twitter account and a new hairstyle!

In the second tweet sent from her new @FLOTUS (shorthand for First Lady of the United States) account, Mrs. Obama posted a photo with Inaugural citizen co-chair David Hall ahead of Saturday's National Day of Service, when people from across the country volunteer in their communities in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The president's official Twitter account wished his wife a happy birthday, posting a montage from one of their fun moments together, but did not weigh in on the new bangs.

Happy birthday, @michelleobama! twitter.com/BarackObama/st…— Barack Obama (@BarackObama) January 17, 2013

The new @FLOTUS account, which already has 36,000 (and growing) followers will largely replace @MichelleObama, which was launched a year ago and run by President Obama's re-election team (and will now be managed by the Democratic National Committee).

The @FLOTUS account is run by the first lady's staff, but when she sends a tweet herself she will sign it with her initials, -mo.
