Catchphrase  Pizza chain tycoon Herman Cain is making waves this week, not just because of his endorsement of Newt Gingrich but also for his use of three words: “Awww Shucky Ducky!”

The failed GOP candidate used it in a speech over the weekend to Gingrich supporters.  Mr. Cain is well-known for quoting a Pokemon movie in his resignation speech but at least he attributed it, saying, “I believe these words came from the Pokémon movie...”  The Daily Show's Jon Stewart called that sentence “the greatest nine words ever spoken by an American politician.”

But where did Herman Cain get the gem “Shucky Ducky?”  The phrase stems from stand-up comedian and UniverSoul Circus ringmaster Cecil Armstrong whose stage name was none other than “Shucky Ducky.”   You can hear Shucky Ducky himself explain why he created the phrase during his stand-up here (around the 3:20 mark slightly NSFW.)

The phrase was picked up by WWE wrestler Booker T and later by Herman Cain during his bid for president. We wish you the best Herman Cain and Shucky Ducky to you as well.

Shucky Ducky, quack quack.
