Giffords resigns House seat to focus on recovery

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords resigned from the U.S.

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords resigned from the U.S. House today with a standing ovation from her colleagues, more than a year after she was gravely wounded by a would-be assassin.

The Arizona congresswoman formally resigned after a series of emotional tributes from her colleagues.

Giffords is stepping down to focus on her recovery from a gunshot wound to the head.

Last night, she received a standing ovation from colleagues and a hug and kiss from President Barack Obama in an emotional appearance at the State of the Union address in Washington

We were moved by today's tearful ceremony and wish her and her family all the best!
