Under scrutiny. On the heels of a Friday apology from the IRS that they had been targeting conservative groups for extra scrutiny over their tax-exempt status, the AP reported over the weekend that senior IRS officials knew of the extra scrutiny tea party groups and other conservative organizations were getting as early as 2011. The Wall Street Journal reports the probe extended to groups "worried about government spending, debt or taxes, and even ones that lobbied to 'make America a better place to live.'"
Benghazi probe continues. House Republicans will ask the two co-chairs of the independent report on the Benghazi attacks, Ambassador Tom Pickering and Admiral Mike Mullen, for sworn testimony on the investigation. And the Washington Post reports that "new details from administration e-mails about last year’s attacks...demonstrate that an intense bureaucratic clash took place between the State Department and the CIA over which agency would get to tell the story of how the tragedy unfolded."
Race for Iowa begins. Stoking presidential speculation, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), "put his stake in the ground for a possible run in 2016 by mocking the Obama administration and delivering a blistering critique of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's handling of the terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya," NBC News reports. Paul: ""First question to Hillary Clinton: Where in the hell were the Marines?...It was inexcusable, it was a dereliction of duty, and it should preclude her from holding higher office."
Immigration firestorm. Heritage Foundation scholar Jason Richwine has resigned "after a firestorm erupted over his 2009 dissertation alleging Hispanics do not have 'IQ parity with whites' and that Hispanic immigrants to the United States will have 'low-IQ children and grandchildren,'" NBC News reports.
