On Saturday evening the Des Moines Register released an editorial endorsing  Mitt Romney for president. This is the first time since 1972 the Iowa newspaper has endorsed a Republican nominee for president. The last time was in 1972 when they picked Richard Nixon.

The endorsement states how the editorial board had a “vigorous debate over this endorsement” but ultimately it came down to whom they felt would be a better leader for the country over the next 4 years and that was Mitt Romney. Since the Des Moines Register did endorse Romney in the primary this endorsement did not come a  total  surprise. However, the president did get an endorsement this past weekend from his hometown newspaper, the Chicago Tribune.

Joining us today is Kathie Obradovich, Des Moines Register Political Columnist to discuss the endorsement 's impact  and the state of  the race in  Iowa. Be sure to tune in for the full conversation.
