On Monday, President Obama returns to Connecticut where he will speak at the University of Hartford and deliver a speech intended to urge congress to act on gun safety reform. Prior to delivering his speech, President Obama is expected to meet with family members of the victims.

This marks the second time that President Obama has visited the state since the horrific Newtown shooting that locked the nation’s attention on gun control. While this event will be closed to the public, it is open to students, faculty, staff, and guests invited by the White House including Newtown families. Some of them will even fly back to Washington with the president to begin a week long lobbying push at the capitol.

With the Senate returning and the Obama administration pushing for its gun control legislation, a critical week in Washington begins. The Senate’s first order of business will be debate on the future of gun legislation. But, while there has been some bi-partisan progress a group of republicans are still threatening to filibuster any legislation brought to the floor.

Joining today’s show is Newtown resident Rob Cox, co-founder of Sandy Hook Promise to explain the latest in West Hartford, CT. Rob has been working with the families of Newtown to provide them with realistic goals of what can be accomplished in Washington.
