When it comes to sports, New York and Boston have a historic rivalry. But when tragedy hit the Boston Marathon Monday right before 3 p.m. the two cities instantly came together.

The Brooklyn Academy of Music had messages of solidarity and support illuminated on its façade Monday night. Projections of: “Peace and Love,” lit up the side of the Peter Jay Sharp building on the corner of Lafayette and Ashland Place.

The images were the work of NYC Light Brigade and The Illuminator, a political art project that emerged out of Occupy Wall Street, who use light projections to display their messages.

New York City's Deputy Mayor also tweeted a photo of the Boston flag flying half staff in front of New York City Hall.

“We want to thank those from around the country whose prayers and thoughts have poured in.” Senator Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., said Tuesday during the press conference, “Boston will survive.”
