On Monday, President Barack Obama will be sworn in for his second term as the 44th President of the United States. This is groundbreaking, but how historic would it be if on January 20th, 2017 a woman were sworn in to be the 45th President of the United States.
The Cyclists have talked at length about why Hillary Clinton should run for president in 2016, and why she would win. But if Hillary doesn't run, is the country still ready for a woman leader? Resha Saujani, former New York City Deputy Public Advocate, says yes. Joining the Cycle hosts, she pointed out that President Obama's election showed that you don't have to be a governor in order to get to the Oval Office. There are a lot of potential women contenders.
Here is how the female representation is broken down in the federal government:
“I think after 2012 we showed and demonstrated the power of woman," Saujani said. "We are the majority voters.... Women are ready." We can all enjoy Monday's inauguration, and hope for another groundbreaking one in the near future.
