A giant tornado swept through Oklahoma on Monday, destroying a town and breaking the nation's heart. Politicians, celebrities, and athletes sent messages of love and support to those affected by this horrific natural disaster. Kevin Durant and Matt Kemp, among other athletes and organizations, donated to the Red Cross to help with the relief effort.
The Red Cross is on the scene. “Right now [residents'] immediate need is food, clothing, and shelter,” Allison Koenigbauer a spokesperson for the Red Cross told The Cyclists on Tuesday’s show.“We have shelters that have accommodations for them to sleep, we will accommodate all the people who do need that. If we need to open up more shelters we will open up more shelters. We are definitely prepared to meet the needs of the community and set up what we need to, in order to help everyone.”
With cell phone service being spotty, the Red Cross is working to contact loved ones. “We have set up a service online called Safe and Well where you can list yourself as 'safe and well' and your loved ones can find you,” Koenigbauer said. “That’s one way of communication that we try to provide that may help people here on the ground.”
