Think only Inspector Gadget, Batman, or 007 get the cool techie tools? Not for long, Samsung's highly anticipated Galaxy Gear smart watch will debut Wednesday at the IFA consumer electronics trade show in Berlin.
"The new device will enhance and enrich the current smart mobile experience in many ways," Lee Young-hee, Samsung mobile's executive vice president said to The Korea Times. "It will lead a new trend in smart mobile communications. We are confident that the Gear will add meaningful momentum to the mobile industry."
Samsung has been able to keep leaks to a minimum but the new watch is rumored to come out as top gadget in the battle for smart watch supremacy. Essentially Samsung's watch will be a smart phone you can wear on your wrist.
Galaxy Gear will supposedly be able to connect with Samsung Galaxy S phones and tablets in addition to having Wi-Fi capabilities, social media integration, internet, speakers, voice control, a 4-megapixel camera, an array of health-related functions (heart-rate, food logs, calories) and 10+ hours battery life. Not too shabby for a 3-inch device.
There haven't been any photos of the Galaxy Gear released, but prototypes were released to some app developers and select Samsung partners. Venturebeat writer, Christina Farr was one of the few who got time with the prototype, though she was not allowed to snap any photos she did render a drawing from memory in addition to taking a few stills from the video she was shown developed by an independent team from Samsung.
