Legendary actor turned off-script political commentator Clint Eastwood is back sharing his two-cents on the presidential elections, but don't worry, this time he's not yelling at any empty chairs or any invisible presidents.
The Karl Rove-led super PAC American Crossroads released a new television ad on Wednesday featuring the 82-year-old Hollywood icon. The ad is Eastwood's latest public appearance since his panned turn at the Republican National Convention this August where he went on a rambling tirade onstage, attacking an empty chair that was presumed to be an invisible President Obama.
“Through the last few years, America's been knocked down: 23 million people can't find full-time work, and we borrow $4 billion every single day, much of it from China,” Eastwood says in the 30-second spot.
The ad is reminiscent of Eastwood's highly-acclaimed Super Bowl half-time commercial for Chrysler that praised the economic recovery in Detroit with the driving mantra that the "country cannot be knocked out by one punch."
Republicans at the time criticized what was seen as a glowing endorsement of Obama's auto bailout, but Eastwood came out against the charges, saying the ad was not politically motivated. Eastwood has since evolved as an ardent critic of the president.
“Obama’s second term would be a rerun of the first, and our country just couldn’t survive that,” Eastwood narrates in the ad. “We need someone who could turn it around fast, and that man is Mitt Romney. There’s not much time left, and the future of our country is at stake.”
The ad is slated to run in seven battleground states: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio, and Virginia.
