With only two weeks left until the traditional end of the Supreme Court’s term, we are still waiting on decisions in 19 major cases. On Thursday the Justices did released an opinion that could undo thousands of questionable patents, ruling unanimously that we own our genes. Yet most people are waiting on decisions of the three big cases: affirmative action, same-sex marriage, and voting rights. “My understanding they issue opinions when they are done with them. When they are done, they are done they bring them out the next possible [scheduled day],” The Huffington Post’s Mike Sacks said on The Cycle.
One Supreme Court Justice whom a lot of people are watching is Justice Kennedy, who has become the deciding opinion in many recent cases. “It’s because he was the third choice of President Ronald Reagan so he was the least political, least ideological, most pragmatic of the Justices who were nominated,” Sacks said. “That’s where he has positioned himself and he has views about dignity and liberty that sometimes go with the liberal side and sometimes go with the conservative side.”
