2020 Presidential candidate Senator Kamala Harris is out with a new plan to hold corporations accountable for gender pay gaps, requiring them to receive a certification to prove they are paying men and women equally for analogous work and fining them if they fail to do so. Harris said this plan did not amount to public shaming, but rather is a means of positive reinforcement to incentivize corporations to treat their workers fairly. Harris highlighted the gender wage gap statistics, in which on average women make 80 cents for every dollar men do, emphasizing that the gap is even more stark for Latinas and black women.May 20, 2019
