Wednesday's campaign round-up

Today's installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.

* Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.) said this week Democrats will lose his state's U.S. Senate race unless "we have all these illegal aliens in here in Georgia, [and] give them the right to vote." Broun added his party should nominate him, not a "mamby-pamby" Republican.

* The Republican National Committee's new anti-healthcare ad blitz generated some attention yesterday, but the campaign may not have been as big as the RNC led reporters to believe. The attacks targeting Sen. Mark Begich (D) in Alaska, for example, amounted to literally one airing of one ad on one station. It cost the RNC a grand total of $30. That's not a typo.

* Rep. Trey Radel (R-Fla.) has returned to Capitol Hill after a stint in rehab, but former state Rep. Paige Kreegel has launched a primary campaign against him. Note, Radel defeated Kreegel in a primary in 2012.

* And speaking of Republican primaries, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) will have a Tea Party challenger later this year. An economics professor named David Brat said he wants to be "Eric Cantor's term limit."

* Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett's (R) new campaign materials feature photos of farmers. Unfortunately, they're Canadian farmers.

* Mississippi State Sen. Chris McDaniel (R), taking on Sen. Thad Cochran in a Republican primary, believes "hip-hop" is responsible for gun violence.

* And in Tennessee, scandal-plagued Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R) continues to lose the support of Republican state officials who are backing his primary challenger, state Sen. Jim Tracy (R).
